Moms Need Biblical Mentorship Too & Why It Matters
As a mother, you have the unique opportunity to influence the next generation. You can instill in your children the values that you hold dear, and pass down the traditions that have been passed down to you. But what happens when you feel like you’re losing your way? When motherhood gets overwhelming and you’re not sure where to turn, biblical mentorship from other women can provide the support and guidance you need to get back on track.
What is Biblical Mentorship?
Biblical mentorship is a process whereby a more experienced woman comes alongside a less experienced woman to offer wisdom, encouragement, and prayerful support. It is based on the belief that we are all called to be disciples of Christ, and that we are better able to live out our faith when we are part of a community.
Mentorship relationships can take many different forms, but they all share a common goal: to help moms grow in their faith so that they can be more effective in raising their children to know and love God. Titus 2 will always be my favorite example of mentorship amongst women.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Titus 2:4-5 (NIV)
Why is Biblical Mentorship Important for Moms?
As moms, we often wear many hats. We are expected to be perfect wives, perfect mothers, perfect employees, perfect homemakers…the list goes on. And when we try to do it all ourselves, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s truly important. Thankfully, we don’t have to go through motherhood alone. There is strength in numbers, and by seeking out biblical mentorship from other moms, we can find the support we need to stay focused on what matters most.
Not only will biblical mentorship help you keep your priorities straight, but it will also equip you with the tools you need to deal with the challenges of motherhood. From managing your time wisely to communicating effectively with your children, there is no shortage of topics that can be addressed through biblical mentorship.
If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed as a mom, I encourage you to reach out to a mentor today. It could be a friend, a church leader, or even another mom in your neighborhood. Whoever it is, make sure they are someone who shares your values and who you feel comfortable talking to about sensitive topics. By opening up about your struggles and allowing yourself to be vulnerable, you’ll forge a powerful connection that has the potential to change your life for the better.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of a Christian community where I am mentored daily. Women are constantly pouring into me and I get to pour into them. It’s really an incredible place where we all learn and grow from each other and what the Lord is doing in each of us. Sound like something you’d be into? Check it out here or ask me about it here.
