Helping Your Child to Think Biblically with These 4 Simple Tips
As a mom, it’s your job to teach your kids what is right and wrong (Proverbs 22:6). And while that can be a daunting task, it’s important to remember that you don’t have to do it alone (thank goodness). The Bible is a great resource for teaching kids about God’s standards and principles. Dare I say the ultimate resource? I mean who better to help us parent than God? 1. Read the Bible together as a family.
A great way to start instilling biblical values in your kids is to read the Bible together as a family. This will help them to see the importance of God’s Word in their life and allow them to ask questions about what they’re reading. Don’t be afraid of the questions mama. They’re a good thing! Use them as an opportunity to dive deeper into God’s Word together. Letting them see you don’t always know the answer is a good thing. It reminds them that a) God is always in control and b) it’s a great opportunity to research together.
2. Pray together as a family.
Another great way to help your kids think biblically is to pray together as a family. This will help them to see the power of prayer and how it can impact their lives. Grab your kids a prayer journal so they can write down prayers they’ve had and how God answered those prayers. This will be so useful in helping them build a testimony of how God is active and present in their life.
3. Attend church together as a family
One of the best ways to help your child to think biblically is to attend church together as a family. Not only will this allow them to see the importance of God’s Word, but they will also get to see how it applies to real life. They will be able to see first-hand how people are living out their faith and how they can apply biblical principles to their own lives. Let them see other children, teens, and adults living out their faith. It’s not only Mom and Dad that have a relationship with the Lord but other people around them.
4. Talk about how the Bible applies to everyday life.
As you go about your day-to-day activities, take some time to talk about how the Bible applies to what you’re doing. For example, if you’re dealing with a difficult situation, you can discuss how Jesus dealt with difficult situations in the Bible. This will help your kids see how the Bible is relevant to their lives. The application is key! Explaining the why behind your faith allows your children to see there is a purpose and gives them an anchor. Ask yourself how many times, “because I said so,” worked on you as a child. It probably didn’t and for good reason. Our children need to know why we believe what we do and how it applies to their life.

5. Encourage them to ask questions.
As your kids grow, they will start to have questions about faith and the Bible. encourage them to ask those questions! This is such an important part of helping them to think biblically. It shows them that it’s okay not to know everything and that they can come to you with anything. It also allows you to have open and honest conversations about faith. Teaching your children critical thinking skills will serve them in the long run as they go out and face ideas and arguments that counter God’s Word.
Teaching your kids to think biblically is a crucial part of parenting. By reading the Bible together as a family, praying together, and talking about how the Bible applies to everyday life, you can help your kids develop biblical values that will last a lifetime.
These are great tips for sharing Gods word with our kids and it’s so important to build a great foundation while they are young. I have 4 teenage boys and working hard to do this when they were young has deepened their faith to where they now choose to go and their faith has become their own.
